The Valentin valley, located mainly in the Eaux-Bonnes area, is a zone regularly subjected to all kinds of natural hazards such as usually occurs in the mountains.

The first step of this pilot case of the MONTCLIMA project was the carrying out of a multi-hazard inventory made from avalanche reports, newspaper articles, archives and records, RTM/MTES event database and evidences or witness statements.

680 events have been registered over the last two centuries, among which 604 avalanches, 33 landslides and mudflows, 33 torrential events and 11 rockfalls.

Coinciding with World Earth Day, the second transnational seminar on "Forest fire management and prevention strategies in the SUDOE area" took place on 22 April 2021 in Leira, Portugal. The meeting was hosted by the Intermunicipal Community of the Leira Region (CIMRL), a partner of the project. From 9:30 to 14:00, numerous external speakers and MONTCLIMA partners shared the latest data collected on forest fires, and exchanged on best management practices to increase the resilience of the territories of the Southwest against the risk of forest fires.

In this article we briefly present the testing of different soil management practices in a vineyard in the Rioja Alavesa (DOC Rioja) with a high risk of soil erosion.  

It is a plot of the Graciano variety located in the municipality of Elvillar (Álava), with slopes of 10-20%, managed in organic farming mode and belonging to the Maisulan winery.
